MY STORY

I was an ambitious and adventurous woman.
With a chock-a-block diary, a wardrobe full of beautiful clothes and a “great” job.

But deep down I wasn’t happy.
And I couldn’t work out why.
On paper my life looked great. I had a great job. Professional recognition. A busy social life. My social media accounts were filled with pictures of travel and parties. My friends would tell me I had it all, but secretly I thought “if only you knew”. I had a crippling lack of self-esteem and had used food, exercise and work to numb myself for years.

Nothing could make up for the lack of self care and self love.

MEL NOAKES
The Self Care Coach
If your life looks great on paper
but feels crap in real life,
we need to talk.
I’m Mel, The Self Care Coach, specialising in helping women to balance professional success with their personal health and happiness.

It starts with embracing your uniqueness, respecting your body and creating a sense of balance so you can thrive.

I can help you enjoy the success you’ve strived so hard to achieve without having to sacrifice your soul to find it.

I spent my whole life
striving to be perfect,
and it still wasn’t enough.
I appeared to have the life most women dream of.
But despite external signs of success I was battling with stress, an eating disorder and low self esteem .  My mood and whether it was a “good day” or “bad day” was so often determined by what I ate or what the scales said that I lost all sense of reality at times. I constantly compared myself to other people and never felt I measured up, both professionally and personally.  I worried about everything I ate, said, did, didn’t do – and I was exhausted all the time.

It took a lot of soul searching, a couple of round-the-world trips and truck-load of self discovery, but eventually I realised my problem wasn’t my body, appearance or job …

My problem was how I felt about myself.

The things I strived for didn’t bring me happiness, because, underneath all the layers of ‘success’, I didn’t feel good enough.

With that realisation my life changed completely.

I finally accepted who I was and made peace with myself and my body and promised myself moving forward things would be different, for real this time.

I started to live my life rather than just exist.

And I promised myself I’d help other women do the same.

A trek to Machu Picchu literally changed my life.

Which is why I run a week long retreat in magical Peru coaching a small group of women to reconnect with themselves, their body and their strength.

I realised that I didn’t want other women to reach the place of where they loathe themselves as much as I had. I decided that I wanted to help them stop hiding and start living too.

So I armed myself with the skills to make that happen.  I trained as a coach, NLP Practitioner and Hypnotherapist; I studied nutrition and launched my own signature programmes.

I now work with women – online, in-person and in-house – to help them discover their own strength and brilliance, and to start loving the skin, and life, they’re in.

“I’m working
on myself,
for myself,
by myself.”
I want you to know that you are enough,
you always have been.
It took 15 years for me to make peace with my body and even longer to prioritise my own self care.

I had to learn that saying yes to myself didn’t mean I was saying no to anyone else or pushing people away.

I don’t want it to take that long for you. The stakes are too high, and you’ve lost enough time already.

You deserve to live an extraordinary life.
And an extraordinary life begins with taking care of yourself.
Knowing that you deserve compassion, love or whatever you call it.
The Self Care Assessment will help you find the best place to start.

A few more things that you might find interesting about me…
I am an eating disorder survivor
I am proud to say I survived my eating disorder. My struggle with my body and food lasted for over 15 years until I finally began my recovery in my late twenties. I suffered with both Anorexia and Bulimia so when I work with clients on issues around body image, self-esteem, food and self care – I REALLY get it. I also want to be sure you never get to the place I found myself in.
I've always been an enthusiastic over-achiever
I love a gold star.  Give me an A* over an A any day. I would weep with joy at a certificate or medal.  I was always the ‘good’ girl in school and at home.  I’m a people pleaser, a perfectionist, and a Virgo too.  I’m effectively a classic ‘type A’ personality, I hold my hands up.

It kind of explains how I often found myself over delivering, over promising and over scrutinizing everything. I pushed myself constantly to reach the incredibly high expectations I had of myself – both personally and professionally.  Burn-out, eating disorders, exhaustion, multiple plate spinning – it was all pretty much inevitable.

Now I channel my energy and perfectionism into delivering exceptional coaching and experiences for my clients and the self care practices I teach are all the things I used to heal myself and continue to use to this day.

I am passionate about empowering women
Throughout my career I have always looked to support other women and help them step into their brilliance. I continue to be a vocal supporter of women in the events industry and I am committed to creating a self care revolution supporting as many as women as possible globally end their battle with food, their bodies and themselves to live an extraordinary life.
I am a travel-a-holic
I am quite literally addicted to travelling having visited over 50 countries and still counting. I love the freedom, adventure and opportunity that travel brings. Travel has taught me a huge amount, about myself and about the world in which we live in. I continue to be richer because of my travel experiences and I now have a place to stay in pretty much every corner of the world.

When I’m not working you can find me on a plane, planning to get on a plane or helping someone else plan to get on a plane. There’s very few places I haven’t been and the ones I haven’t been to yet are on the list!

I believe in the power of experiences
I am a creator and curator of experiences both professionally and personally. I believe that to truly transform you need to have the experience and that is why my coaching, retreats and workshops all have experiences at their heart.
I'm committed to life long learning
After my trip to Machu Pichu, I qualified as a professional coach I’ve dedicated myself to learning the skills required to help others. My qualifications include:

  • Personal Transformation Coaching (ICF and CThA approved)
  • Spiritual and Transpersonal Coaching Diploma
  • Person-Centred NLP and Hypnotherapy Practitioner (British Institute of Hypnotherapy and NLP and CThA approved)
  • Health Coaching (Distinction – ICF approved)
I'm a Guinness World Record holder
I never got my Blue Peter badge but two of my projects did win Guinness World Records. I’m also fortunate to be listed in the Event100 as one of the most influential people in the UK events industry. But my biggest achievement to date?  Working with women like you teaching them to love the skin they’re in.  Nothing makes me happier or more fulfilled.
